Recap:
Our party of heroes returned to Phandalin from Thundertree feeling victorious after their defeat of Count Blackwood and his brother Glarg. Upon arrival in Phandalin, however, you were accused of negligence in the murder of Townmaster Harbin by Halia Thornton. Halia turned the population against you with ease.
The party spent the next three days trying to prop up Sildar Hallwinter as the opposing candidate for Townmaster. At sunset on the third day ballots were cast and Halia was declared the nearly unanimous winner.
At this point she burst into laughter and called forth the true supporters of her grass roots campaign, a sizable contingent of Drow! The Drow were tasked with killing the party and leaving the town to Halia. However, seeing Nym become Shiall, the Drow priestess re-directed her team to capture Shiall and retreat. She cast a very powerful spell provided by the Drow House of Oblodra, Shiall's ancestral house! Shiall's soul was ripped from Nym and placed inside a massive emerald.
The party fought the Drow as they retreated towards the Town Hall. Barric's mount and Wellby pursued while the rest of the party stayed behind to deal with a Shadow Demon that one of the mages had summoned to delay the party. The evil beast was felled in a bright flash of radiant light and steel from Berric's sword.
The party gathered at the Town Hall where Wellby had already scaled the left side of the building and was looking to find a way into the second floor. Nym and Truffle scaled the right side of the building doing the same as Wellby. The rest of the party began to break in the front door which had been barred from the inside. With the help of Berric's Celestial Lion the doors finally broke free and the party poured in weathering a hail of crossbow bolts and a casting of Evard's Black Tentacles! The majority of the enemy forces had created a massive barricade and were hiding behind it taking shots and creating two choke points into the better part of the room.
Wellby dropped into a window on his side of the building to discover an attic like space with nothing but supplies and storage containers. He was on the wrong side of the building! Meanwhile, Nym and Truffle dropped in on the other side and right into the sight of the Drow Priestess and Halia. Two giant spiders were conjured forcing Nym and Truffle to run for their lives, but not before Truffle deftly set them both ablaze with alchemists fire and oil!
The party below continued to engage the rest of the Drow forces nearly facing defeat at several turns. Magical healing and lucky strikes kept the party engaged, even when comrades were knocked aside. The Drow mages created a special kind of havoc as both Berric and Ticier felt the surging sting of lightning bolts which blasted them and the front walls of the building. Even some Drow lost their lives to those blasts.
The priestess and Halia were forced down stairs into the main hall and were chased by Nym, Truffle and Wellby who had regrouped on the roof. Halia and the Preistess were making for the newly created front doors of the building while slinging spells and demons at the remaining part members. A Yochlol was summoned and began to engage Berric and Simeon who had been struggling already with a number of Drow warriors.
One Drow Mage disappeared and the other worked to help cover the preistess' escape. Wellby was caught in another casting of the back tentacles and he, Truffle and Nym were nearly felled by the poisonous fog from a cloudkill spell!
Lander and Robin moved to engage the priestess and stop her escape but were thwarted by her summoning of an insect plague. Wellby jumped free from the black tentacles enough to place a sword between Halia shoulder blades before the cloudkill spell finished her off. Truffle emerged from the fog gasping for air as the Drow mage was finally felled. The party worked well against the demon while Ticier was left fighting for his life on the other end of the room.
Finally, Truffle's magical recorder saved the day again as it's magic pierced the demon's skin and killed it.
Several Drow have backed into a corner realizing they have lost. The priestess has escaped and Halia lies dead at your feet. The building is on fire, and several of the party has suffered, burns, scars, or other grievous wounds.
Nym, still choking on the last wisps of the poisonous cloud that should have killed her, looks dazed, confused, and lost. She continues to feel some connection to Shiall, but she has really lost a part of herself this evening...
